  • The Sermon on the Mount

    AUTHOR: The Bible Project
    TYPE: Video Based

DESCRIPTION: If you’ve ever heard of Jesus of Nazareth, you probably know he was a famous teacher. And his most well-known words have shaped the lives of billions of people throughout history. They come from a collection of Jesus’ teaching that’s sometimes called The Sermon on the Mount. It’s only three chapters long, but its ideas and images have endured throughout time

JACOB’S NOTES: While this material is incredibly helpful & well done, it isn’t a perfectly packaged small-group bible study kit (like what you get from RightNow Media). So if you’re group wants to study the Sermon on the Mount and you want to use some of this material, you wiil need to pick and choose what you want to use and what might not be necessary for your group context. You will also need to come up with discussion questions.

Alternatively, if you only wated to study a section of the sermon on the mount, this material would also be helpful for that!

  • 1 Peter

    AUTHOR: Kyle Idleman
    TYPE: Video Based

The world's not as it should be. Until the day that God rights all wrongs, we have a job to do. Let's be about the business of the kingdom.

  • Romans

    AUTHOR: J.D Greear
    TYPE: Video Based

DESCRIPTION: The book of Romans is considered by many to be one of the most important books ever written on the Christian faith. Writing to Christians, the apostle Paul defines the gospel, explores its depths, and discusses its significance and implications for the Christian life.

JACOB’S NOTES: This is a longer series (it has 2 parts), so before picking this one, make sure you’re in for the long haul!

  • Romans: Read, Mark, Learn

    AUTHOR: St. Helen’s Bishopsgate
    TYPE: Book

DESCRIPTION: Read / Mark / Learn is a small group Bible study series that is designed to equip people to study God’s Word for themselves – and in studying it, know God’s purpose for their lives. Each study establishes:

    - the context, aim and structure of the passage
    -links with the Old Testament
-lessons from each part of the passage— highlighting key issues
    -practical applications and suggestions.

Each section also includes conversational discussion starters and suggested questions for leading a Bible study. There is also a section for photocopying for group members to pre–prepare for each study.

JACOB’S NOTES: This is a really helpful book to have as a leader if you’re wanting your group to work through Romans. Not everyone needs the book, only the leader. It provides lots of stuff to talk about in your study/discussion, but you don’t have to use it all. When I used this book, I would pre-read what was written in the book, and pull what I thought would be helpful for that week’s passage. Lot’s of flexibility here…. so a super helpful resource if you’re looking to do a straight study of Romans.

If you want to sample before purchasing, Jacob can provide you a copy to check out.

  • N.T. Wright: For Everyone Bible Studies

    AUTHOR: N.T. Wright
    Type: Book

DESCRIPTION: N.T. Wright has many different books that help you lead a group through particular books of the bible. Check out the link below to see which books he has covered.

JACOB’S NOTES: Use this guide if you want an authentic Bible study experience. I know these books have worked well in groups where everyone knew each other well and was comfortable sharing. I can’t confirm if they have worked well for groups who are still getting to know each other. If you want to read a sample before purchasing to see if it would work well, ask Jacob and he can lend you a copy.

  • The Gospel of Mark

    AUTHOR: Francis Chan
    TYPE: Video Based

DESCRIPTION: The Gospel of Mark chronicles Jesus’s journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. Along the way, the Messiah gathers a ragged band of disciples. As crowds grow and dwindle on the road to Jerusalem, only a few stick by the Suffering Savior on the road of discipleship.

In this 11-part series on the Gospel of Mark, author and speaker Francis Chan invites us to walk with him along the ancient ways of the Master. Tracing the steps of Jesus and the Twelve through Israel, Francis explores the major themes of the Gospel of Mark, and asks: Are we willing to take this journey to embrace discipleship?

JACOB’S NOTES: Once again Francis Chan passionately challenges his listeners to reflect on the person of Jesus - His steps, His Words and His life. For those that have been to the Holy Land and for those who try to picture the setting, this study brings to life the journey of Jesus the Son of God.
