The Homelessness Prevention Program is administered by The Salvation Army and funded by The Regional Municipality of York and the Government of Ontario. Homelessness Prevention Program provides financial and support services to York Region residents who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
People who are behind on rental, mortgage or utility payments may get support from the Homelessness Prevention Program.
This program may be able to support you with:
Preventing a utility cut off
Preventing an eviction due to missed rent or mortgage payments
First and last month’s rent
Urgent medical needs
To be eligible for the Homelessness Prevention Program, you must:
Have not received this payment within the last three years
Live in York Region
Be a Canadian Citizen, Landed Immigrant or Refugee
Be behind on rent, mortgage or utility payments or be living in a temporary shelter
Not be receiving Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program benefits
